2024 Meeting Details
November 11th meeting: The featured speaker will be Colby Cartledge. Colby is a quilt maker, mender, and handwork lover. Colby grew up as a single child of a single mother, who was a seamstress by trade, and who taught Colby her love of fabric. Her grandmother taught her her love of handwork. Colby's grandmother was an amazing embroidery artist and had a needle in Colby's hand by the age of 5. Colby started making quilts at age 9 for 4-H competitions and made one every year until she went to undergrad. She resumed her quilt making after graduating and has
been making quilts as fast as she could buy the supplies ever since. She describes her work as in the style of Modern Traditionalism, a mix of modern quilting principles tied back to the roots of our craft.
Colby will lecture in person and will share her tips on how to determine if scrap quilting is for you in her lecture “Don’t Get Stuck in a Scrap Trap!" . She will share ideas on how to set up a scrap system that
enables you to actually start using your scraps. She will debunk common myths about scrap quilting, share tips on how to maintain and actively use your scraps,
and show many examples of scrap quilts she has made over the years.

Comfort Quilt News:
This year's comfort quilts can be made using this year's block pattern (download pattern) or can be made using a pattern of your choice.
Kits and bundles for comfort quilt projects are available at most meetings. Backing or batting for a quilt you’ve already made can be obtained by emailing Kathy M or Kathy W.
As of September, the club has donated 129 quilts and 141 pillowcases. Our quilts have gone to senior homes, refugees, those recovering from trauma, injury or illness, needy families in the SW metro, and public health recipients. We receive many heartfelt thanks from these recipients! Our tally for 2023 was 187 quilts, so with those still waiting to go out and the ones you’ll turn in by the November meeting we just might top that number.
New Comfort Quilt Project: Make a Christmas or winter-themed placemat for senior home residents. Many of our comfort quilts go to residents of senior homes, and during December, some of our Christmas-themed quilts have been used as prizes at their holiday events. This year, we’d like to collect placemats that the homes can use as prizes at these events or during their regular meals. Placemats should be approximately 14 x 17” and any Christmas or winter-themed item would be welcome. Placemats will be collected at CAQC meetings through November.
Making a comfort quilt at home? Approximate sizes desired
Kid’s size – 40 x 50”
Lap size – 50 x 60”
Twin size – 60 x 70”

Resolution Quilt Dates:
• All projects need to be completed by November 30, 2024.
• Send a photo of each completed project to Kim A. Also, consider bringing your finished projects to a meeting for show and tell. Reminder: Quilts are to be bound. Labels are optional, but encouraged.
Two drawings will be held at the Holiday Party. There will be a drawing for quilts completed in the last quarter. The Fat Quarter Grand Prize drawing for all Resolution Quilts completed this year by November 30th will be the second drawing.
Small Quilt Groups:
Small groups are a great way for new members to get involved and get to know others. A list of existing small groups will be made available at the check-in table each month and in the newsletter.
The Try Something New Group will meet on Tuesday, October 29, 1:00 - 3:00 in the Wilder Room at the Chanhassen Library. The next challenge is monochromatic, or also known as 50 shades of play. Pick one color and work with multiple tones of that color. No limits on the type of project, but please just use one color and its many different tones.
All are welcome! Even if you don't complete this challenge, you are invited to come and watch the show and tell and be part of deciding the next challenge.
Mount Calvary Saturday Group is an open quilting group.
RSVP required.
The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 2, from 9:00-3:00 pm. Members can drop in and sew and chat throughout the day. You need to provide your own lunch if you stay all day or people often walk across the parking lot to Kowalski's to pick something up. You must RSVP to Eva V. by Oct 30 if you are coming. We will cancel if we don't have 6 confirmed attendees.
Some people hand-sew and some bring machines - your choice. There is a convenient side door to the room where we sew on the north side of the church on William Street. This group generally meets one Saturday a month. RSVP for Nov 2 or email to express
