2026 CAQC Quilt Show News:
The 2026 Quilt Show Raffle Quilt was revealed at the January Meeting. The Raffle Quilt Committee chairs designed the raffle quilt with these goals:
1. Incorporate the show speaker Amy Pabst’s influence - Log cabin & Pineapple designs. Amy also works in miniatures. The committee wanted a quilt that was a nice wall size. The finished block size is 5”.
2. Involve as many members in the construction of the quilt as wanted to participate. Using the paper-piecing technique opened it up to all skill levels.
3. Keep the cost down. This was possible because members donated all the cotton fabrics that were used.
4. The final goal was to make a quilt that one would look at and say, “I'll never make that quilt, but I will buy raffle tickets."
The committee found a pattern by Japanese quilter, Yoko Saito. (Permission was received from her editor to use her pattern). The pattern incorporated Log Cabin and Pineapple blocks. In addition, Yoko’s pattern included appliqué, embroidery, and beading. Some of Yoko Saito’s embroidery and applique elements were changed and were reduced by 20% to get the desired scale for the Raffle Quilt. Yoko’s evergreen or Juniper embroidery and the petaled flowers were used, but the eucalyptus and the orange flowers were substituted in by the committee, who wanted to feature winter flowers. Yoko's flowers became Hellebores and Protea flowers. The committee wanted the floral elements to be winter flowers.
Amy Pabst likes to count all her pieces in her quilts, so FYI this gorgeous embroidered, hand quilted raffle quilt contains:
• 36 log cabin blocks – 324 pieces
• 85 pineapple blocks – 2805 pieces
• 44 half pineapple blocks – 924 pieces
• 4 corner blocks – 52 pieces
This is a total of 4105 pieces not including all the applique pieces. It took about 13 months from start to finish.
Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way to this gorgeous quilt.
• Donation of fabric: everyone! There was a great response.
• Piecing of blocks: 52 members
• Applique and Embroidery: Nancy G., Beth H., Joan G., Barb L.
• Section Assembly: Sue W., Jill S.
• Binding and label: Jill S.
• Hand Quilting done by: Chris P.
Amy Pabst - Quilt Show Class Information & Supply Lists
Two classes given by Amy Pabst will be offered at the 2026 quilt show. Class registration for CAQC members began at the April 13th club meeting . A registration Form is attached to the April -June Newsletters!
Description of classes:
1- Foundation Piecing a Miniature Pineapple Block
Friday – September 25, 2026, 9 am-noon, Chaska Community Center in the White Oak Room
2- Foundation Piecing a Miniature Log Cabin Block
Saturday - September 26, 2026, 9 am-noon, Chaska Community Center in the White Oak Room
In these classes, students will learn the technique of foundation piecing. The miniature Log Cabin block and the Miniature Pineapple Block will finish at 3” with strips of ¼”. Don’t be intimidated by the small scale; students always report that it was much easier than they thought it would be.
The classes also includes information about printers/papers/other specialty materials and Electric Quilt Software. There is also discussion about quilting/finishing techniques that work well with this size of block.
A supply list for each class is available to be downloaded here.
Class size is limited, so consider registering early.
Registration opens to non-members on July 1st
Member class fee is $55, non-member fee is $65.
Raffle Quilt Ticket Sale News:
In support of CAQC we are once again selling tickets for our member-made raffle quilt. Our expectation this year is that every member buy a $20.00 packet of 10 tickets to be sold for $2.00 each. Raffle tickets will be available to be picked up starting at the March meeting. Please bring your $20.00 and plan to pick up a package of tickets. Members can keep the tickets for themselves or sell those tickets to others. Members can pay for additional tickets if they'd like to sell more. Tickets will be available at every club meeting except the picnic until the show. All filled out subs or unsold tickets must be returned and accounted for per Minnesota lottery rules. Please bring them to club meetings or make arrangements to get them to a committee person. Minnesota rules to be aware of are: No one under the age of 18 is allowed to sell or buy a ticket, and all ticket sales must occur in Minnesota and be sold in person. Please read the complete listing of Minnesota lottery rules contained in the current Quilt Show newsletter.
In order to increase ticket sales and advertise for our upcoming show, CAQC tries to take the quilt to guilds and community events throughout the state prior to the show. A signup sheet will be available with opportunities for members to participate. Please sign up or let a committee member know if you are willing to take the raffle quilt on an outing or have an idea where we could take the quilt.
Raffle Quilt Incentive Program:
We are having a Bucket Drawing at the October meeting for members who have sold 20 raffle tickets or more! There will be a choice of seven incentive items, each of which will have a bucket, labeled for that prize.
For every 20 raffle tickets sold ($40 in sales), the seller will get one yellow ticket stub from the Raffle Ticket Sales Team. To enter the drawing, a ticket stub is placed in the bucket corresponding to the prize you would like to win. Sell more tickets and you can enter more drawings! Be sure to write your name on the ticket stub, you need not be present to win.
There is a separate Grand Prize drawing. Complete rules for each drawing is explained in the Quilt Show Newsletter sent to CAQC members.
Quilt Show Registration is Open!
No need to wait until days before the August 1 deadline to register your quilt for the 2026 Fall Splendor of Quilts show! In fact, registering early helps the various committees work ahead and avoid the last-minute rush. We hope to have quilts made by every CAQC member in our show and encourage members to enter more than one if they like. Links to enter quilts for each category are contained in the Quilt Show Newsletter sent to CAQC members
Here’s what you need to know:
Enter quilts in several categories. Only CAQC members can show quilts, and the quilts cannot have been entered in a previous CAQC show (does not apply to Bed Turning quilts).

-Small - up to 199”
-Medium - 200 - 280”

Please supply photos of your quilts:
Unfortunately, this year we are not able to collect quilt photos through the Google Form. Instead, we ask that you send your photos to the email address listed in the newsletter at the time of you registration.
Name the photos "Last name, First initial - Quilt Title, S-M-L" at the time of your registration. Photos do not need to be of the finished quilt; they are used by the Quilt Display committee in planning the show setup.
Editing (or completing) your registrations:
After you submit your registration form, you will be able to edit or add to your registration ONLY if you have saved the link given at the time of registration. Please read the directions in the Quilt Show newsletter for later editing. You will need to save information that is ONLY generated when you hit the Submit button in order to edit your entry later. You must have saved that "edit your information" link if you need to make changes to the original entry.
Thank you for entering your quilts as soon as possible! The Registration Committee, Brenda K. and Norma M., look forward to seeing your creations
2026 Bed Turning
The focus of the 2026 Bed Turning is “Friendship Quilts”, which are quilts made up of blocks created by multiple people. Often Friendship Quilts commemorate a special occasion and may include signatures of the people who made different parts. They could be quilts created with blocks exchanged among the group members, or a “Row by Row” or “Round Robin” quilt, in which a quilt is passed from one quilter to another, each completing a section of the quilt. A raffle quilt, a President’s Block Quilt, a memorial or baby quilt or a donation quilt could all be considered a friendship quilt, as long as multiple people were involved in the creation of the quilt.
Every quilt has a story, so please share the story of your Friendship Quilt at the 2026 CAQC Bed Turning. We anticipate having 30 quilts in the Bed Turning, so stories should be under 1 minute long.
If you have questions, please contact Anne A. or Nancy S.
Lastly and very important
QUILT LABELING INSTRUCTIONS:
It is important that all quilt labels are crafted consistently and placed in the same spot on each quilt, along with a pillowcase or transport bag, as all other quilt entries.
Consistent labeling ensures easy access for multiple show committee members.
IMPORTANT: ALL Quilt Information on labels MUST be identical to the Registration Forms information. (This applies to all Quilts: Challenge, Bed Turning and General exhibit.)
A. Make two (2) identical CLOTH labels (NO Paper labels). Nothing fancy, this is a temporary label for Show purposes ONLY. Note: If you have already attached a permanent label to your quilt, place this temporary “show label” over your permanent label.
B. Any size, 4"x 6” or larger label works well.
C. Print information on labels using a permanent marking pen, pigma pen, etc. Labels must be legible. DO NOT use a Ball-point pen.
D. Include the following information, preferably in this order:
1) Quilt Name - the same as the name on your registration for
2) Entrant’s name
3) Entrant’s Phone #
4) Entrant’s City, MN (optional)
5) Year (optional)
E. Attach one label to the quilt in the LOWER LEFT-HAND CORNER on the BACK of the quilt. Hand basted. NO Pins, safety- or straight-pins.
F. Attach the second label to a pillowcase or transport bag. The center of hem is a good place to attach the label. (This helps with sorting at Take-Down & Pickup time.) No plastic bags. No heavy, bulky bags.
G. Tips:
1) Use similar or matching pillowcases/bags (same color, same print, etc., for multiple entries) to help with identification & sorting at take-down and pickup time.
2) Use zippered bags (pillow protectors) for small items to prevent the quilt from slipping out of the pillowcase.
OR …Make a pillowcase to match your quilt or use fabrics from quilt added to regular pillowcases.
3) FYI …helpful tip for DROP-OFF day: Place your quilt in the pillowcase with the quilt label at the opening so it is easy to identify the quilt.

CAQC Picnic – July 13th Save the date!
On those rainy or too cold spring days when you don’t want to do any planting, you may reorganize parts of your quilt room. When you find quilting treasures that you no longer treasure, set them aside for the July picnic. The picnic will be held on Monday July 13. We will start gathering at 5:00
For those of you new to CAQC, we have an annual picnic in July. We dine on potluck dishes and shop with our best quilty friends. Members bring items to pass on to the others who come to the picnic. You can bring in fabric, quilt tools, books, and patterns - we love it all.
There will be:
• a rummage table with a money donation box
• a Buy It Now box with prices marked for immediate sale
• an auction table with the more valuable items saved for live bidding.
The more valuable items that are donated should be brought to the June meeting. These items would be completed tops, blocks made but not assembled, kits, Block of the Month, things that should or could be live auctioned. This will give the committee time to review and organize the live auction items for a smoother experience. The committee might even have a handout of the live auction offerings at the picnic.
We hope you find some great quilt items in your studio that you would like to pass on to another CAQC member.
Remember this is a potluck, so dust off a favorite summer recipe to share.
Comfort Quilt News:
What an incredible group we have! The Comfort Quilts program continues to thrive thanks to the generosity and dedication of so many talented members who give freely of their time and talents. A warm thank you to everyone who contributes — whether you’re sewing on binding, quilting on a longarm or domestic machine, donating quilt tops and backings, sharing fabric from your stash, or putting your skills to work making quilt tops and pillowcases. Every contribution, large or small, makes a real difference.
At our May meeting, the results spoke for themselves: 28 finished quilts, 17 pillowcases, and several quilt tops were received — a truly remarkable outpouring of generosity. To each and every one of you who makes Comfort Quilts possible — thank you!
If you would like make a comfort Quilt using this year's block pattern you can Download this year's block pattern here.
Quilts will be given to several of the same organizations that we gave to last year including the Hopkins Welcome Home program for Veterans , which took our biggest number of donations last year. The veterans could use quilts for twin or full size beds. The Sleep in Heavenly Peace program and Crescent Cove Children’s Hospice request twin sized quilts (60x80). We can still use lap sized and baby quilts for nursing homes and day care centers. If you have a suggestion for a new place to donate to, please let one of the committee members know.
Any requests for batting or backing can be texted to Linee M. or Rosemary W. See contact information in the newsletter.
