2024 Meeting Details

February 10th Quilt Walk Video!

The featured speaker for the May 13th meeting will be Heather Peterson  of Anka's Treasures.  Heather is a quilt pattern and fabric designer, business owner and mom. She grew up in her mother’s sewing room, and spent a lot of her childhood sewing and creating things with fabric. She started quilting as a college freshman - almost 30 years ago and has been obsessed ever since. It wasn’t long until she began designing and publishing her own pattern line under the name of Anka’s Treasures. That collection has grown to include hundreds of quilt designs in books, patterns and magazines. She also spent a lot of time drawing and painting as a kid and has turned that love of drawing into designing fabric.

After 20 years of designing fabric, Heather has created 27 collections - currently in collaboration with Riley Blake Designs and formerly for Henry Glass. She tries to balance her time between creating and running her business, while raising two busy boys with her husband on a lake in Minnesota.

Check out the newsletter for more information on the following:

Small groups are a great way for new members to get involved and get to know others.   A list of existing small groups will be made available at the check-in table each month and in the newsletter.

Contact Chris P. if you can help fill a couple of open positions.

First is a Program Co-chair to begin in July and serve for a year.  The 2024  schedule is filled so a new person would be helping this year's chair and would begin planning for next year.

Another committee we would like to create is a tech group to help with Zoom, operating projectors, computers, etc. that would be needed at meetings.

Board Meeting:  The next scheduled Board Meeting is on August 5th, from 5-7 in the Wilder Room of the Chanhassen Library.  The slate of  officers, committee chairs, and any member can attend.

Membership News:
Be sure to read the newsletter regarding the changes to membership dues!!!
Please be sure your dues are up to date so that you do not miss any important information. Per our bylaws, your name will be removed from our monthly newsletter and monthly meeting roster if your dues are over two months late. However, it is easy to get back on the mailing list. Simply bring your check to a monthly meeting or send your check (made out to CAQC) to Tina R. at the USPS mail address contained in the newsletter.

Comfort Quilt News:
This year's comfort quilts can be made using this year's block pattern (download pattern) or can be made using a pattern of your choice.

The Comfort Quilt Committee brings fabric kits or bundles to almost every monthly meeting, so there’s always an opportunity to make a quilt for someone who needs a little warmth.  And you can always request backing or batting for a quilt you’ve made by emailing Kathy M or Kathy W.

The Comfort Quilt Committee has received quite a few tops to be quilted.  A few long-arm quilters have volunteered to finish these for us but we have accumulated quite a backlog.  Until further notice, we are accepting only larger, twin-size quilt tops (app. 60x70”) to send to long-armers because the need for those is the greatest.  Several members have taken lap quilts to finish on their domestic machines (thank you!), but we need more members to help with this.  If you are willing to take lap size quilts home to be quilted, please let the Comfort Quilt Committee know.   As always, we appreciate completed quilts of all sizes so please continue to turn those in.

Making a comfort quilt at home? Approximate sizes desired
Kid’s size – 40 x 50”
Lap size – 50 x 60”
Twin size – 60 x 70”
Fidget quilts – 18 x 20”
Kid’s/Teen’s pillowcases – Cut 27” WOF and a 9” WOF border
Quilts of Valor – minimum size 55 x 65

• March 1st to November 30th, work on your projects. All projects need to be completed by November 30, 2024.
• Send a photo of each completed project to Kim A. prior to our monthly meetings. (Second Monday of the month). Also, consider bringing your finished projects to a meeting for show and tell.

Summer Picnic:

CAQC will have the annual picnic Monday, July 8th. Gathering start time is 5:30pm.

For those of you who are new to CAQC, we have an annual picnic in July. We dine on potluck dishes and shop with our best quilty friends. Members can bring in fabric, quilt tools, books, and patterns. Kits, partially assembled quilts, blocks made, but not assembled can be passed along.

Search your quilting space and set aside those works in progress that you no longer treasure. There will be a garage sale type of table with a money donation box, and an auction table with the more valuable items saved for live bidding.  Save the date. We hope you find some great quilt items that you would like to pass on to another CAQC member.  Remember this is a potluck format, so dust off a favorite summer recipe to share.
